The Florence tramway is “a success story and a project that works”

ROME, January 17, 2018 - The Florence tramway is “a success story and a project that works”. The Pendolaria 2017 report gives full marks to the Florence tramway, underlining that the Florence tramway “is one of the most important examples of how to offer a modern and efficient service to commuters”.

According to Legambiente report, which each year photographing the plight of commuters and therefore the functionality of public transport, the tram is on the podium of the special classification that indicates the best practices.

This is a confirmation given that also in the 2016 report the Florence-Scandicci line was reported as a positive realization, underlining the strong use compared to the initial estimates together with the fact that about 35/40% of those who use the tramway today have given up travel by car or motorbike.

"It is a recognition that certifies the success of the tramway - comments Jean Luc Laugaa, CEO of GEST - and a further confirmation of the fact that the tramway changes the city, thanks to a service that responds positively to the needs of citizens. Today - continues Laugaa - we are working to start lines 2 and 3, aware of the expectations and determined to confirm this success ”. Pending the completion of the works and subsequent tests by the manufacturers,

GEST is training and hiring 70 new drivers and is preparing to manage the pre-operation phase in just 30 days (instead of the expected 3 months).
