Solution
In 2020, STIB (the Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company) entrusted Tootbus with the contract to manage the Hop-on Hop-off tourist bus service in Brussels, to be launched in 2021. After having been shut down because of the pandemic, the Brussels tourist buses resumed service on 26 November. On that occasion, we inaugurated the world’s first fleet of fully electric tourist buses.
The challenge of resuming the tourist bus service in Brussels is twofold. We wish to offer a quality service to tourists after the pandemic, and stay true to our commitment to the environment by rolling out a 100% electric fleet.
During the winter season, we will be running two electric buses on two routes to show tourists the main points of interest in the city. At a later stage, when public health measures permit, the service will be ramped up.
That desire to instil a new dynamic in tourism is illustrated, for example, by the introduction of new targeted content for children: Arthur shows his friend Nour and the young passengers around Brussels. The content has been redesigned to let visitors discover Brussels as presented by adopted residents, as if they were exploring the city with friends.
